My idea of good work is the kind of work which inspires others. I'm a big sucker for video games (JRPG'S), because of the storylines, artworks and sountracks.

I usually put a lot of work in face features, which manga doesn't. They focus on expressions and style. What expresses a characters personality lies in their clothes and hairstyle, and the colours they own. Their theme song also express their focal point of their persona.

A lot of western artist look down upon manga, which is kind of foolish as a lot of them are into cartoon art. The general opinion is that manga artist (mangakas) can't draw because of the simplicity in the face features. Even though I can draw a very realistic face, I don't agree with this. You have to be much more talented if you're able to put in as much life and expression whith only a few dots and lines. How many times haven't you seen a perfect fine art painting, without any feeling or life in it?

The most important thing in art is the idea and the feeling. I rather look at less well made art with new ideas and a lot of inspiration than a totally flat fine art painting. Although, there are a ton of fine art paintings I love.

I guess I am more into the escapism of art than the realistic. The children's book illustrations and vintage fairy tales also have that escapistic art feel.

It's a matter of taste. It's always a matter of taste and I guess there is no way to define which taste is the right one.

But if you're into manga, then you most deffinetely are a sucker for clothing design and colours!

It is also a matter of home - being able to relate to the characters and to love the environments. The music adds a great deal to that, and the voice actors. You often find that the character with the clothes you prefer also have the personality you like the best too.

So all of the elements I've discussed adds up to you feeling home. It's all an illusion, but that is what we gamers want. We need the illusion - the fantasy - the escapism.

The illusion of being with friends is so good. That is why I never play online games. So really, I have friends in reality and I use games for enjoying som alone time with my own mind. That is also one of the reasons why I love to write, and why I create my own escapistic world.

This is probably what I love most. The conceptual art, when you see how the characters been designed.

I would love to get a scanner and the equipments to paint on my computer... but for now, I settle with the traditional work.

And I end this entry with my own work. Some old, some new.
