I've tried a lot of different hair colours but never black. I would never dye my hair black, but I love the colour. So, I bought a wig from yesstyle.com.
I was amazed how much make up I had on when I took the wig off. You can use a lot more when you have black hair. Blonde needs more subtle colours I think.
